Music has an effective therapeutic cure for many diseases.

Music therapy
There is enough historical evidence of music and its employment in education, entertainment, healing and mood management in writings, frescoes, paintings, leaf and papyrus bindings discovered, documented and preserved across civilizations. We took a look at Music therapy, an established healing modality that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals of all ages.
"Music, depending on the nature of its delivery and the environment in which it is delivered, connects and communicates with us in different individual ways.  The human body is but an inner Universe, which responds to physical and neural communication. For the Music therapist, sound is an instrument for creating the sensation of hearing, a transmission of controlled energy that is perceived by the ear, processed by the brain which resonates in the energy centres of the body as a symbol of movement," said Rajam Shanker, Consultant Music Therapist at Rajam Music Therapy Center.

 Client specific
Rajam went  on to say that Music therapy prescription must desirably emanate from the clients' treatment team which can include doctors, psychologists, teachers, caseworkers and in the case of children with disabilities - their parents.

You don't have to be a musician!
In all Music therapy sessions, it may be said that clients need not be musicians, nor are they required to have any previous initiation to/or knowledge of music.
The sounds of music is an effective therapeutic intervention in many areas ranging from autism, neurological disabilities, trauma, pain management, stress reduction, depression, behavioral correction, sleep disorders, relaxation, etc.

How the therapy is employed?
There are primarily two employment modes in Music therapy - Passive (listening) and Active (participating). Passive forms of Music therapy may be beneficial in almost all ailments and the active forms are of immense help in neurological problems.
