The sudden cut in water supply has  forced the residents of Wakad to shell out huge sums for private water tanks.

With Wakad situated in the center of Pimple Saudagar and Hinjewadi IT Park is facing a severe water shortage. Over the years, it has grown popular with the IT professonals because of the location and high rise residential societies. The area does not lack any basic necessity but recently, the area saw a serious dip in water supply as the ground water level stooped in the winter season. The bore wells which are the prime source of water supply failed to work. Though the problem prevailed throughout the year, it was in these last four months of winter that the residents faced serious problem. Timely measures have not been taken by Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to resolve the issue.
Inhabitants and locals of Wakad expressed their grievances to Cityplus last week. A group of senior citizens sitting in the premises of Datta Temple located on Wakad-Dange Chowk road complained that the newly constructed housing society has aggravated the problem. They said, "Very rarely we  recieve water supply properly. The problem is not new as it exists since long."
Somnath Mohite, working as manager at Eden Tower Housing Society, Wakad said, "After January, troubles began for us. We could not pump up the water from bore wells because they dried up. The water supplied by civic body for residents of 208 flats of the society doesn't match the demands. Consequently, we ordered private water tanker to manage the crisis. On an average, we have hired 4 tankers a day, which costs Rs 400 to 450 each."
After the frequent shortage in water supply, another society Eden Garden, situated opposite to the Tower society adopted other options. Rajendra Gaikwad said, "We have constructed additional water storage tanks where water is ongoingly stored. But within a span of 10 or 15 days, we face water supply problem again."
Ajay Suryavanshi, Engineer (Water Supply), "Since last one month, we are busy with election schedule." He referred the reporter to a  junior engineer but he was not available for the comment. But contesting candidates of Prabhag 53-B promised to resolve the matter. Mukta Kaspate, Shiv Sena said, "If the people elect me, we will soon resolve this issue."
