Eight new dug-up borewells in HBR Layout and three more to follow are going to solve the longstanding water woes and bring cheers to many faces.
It's been a while now since the residents of HBR Layout ward have been facing shortage of drinking water. But now they can heave a sigh of relief as the problem will come to an end within a few days with the digging of borewells.
B. Govindaraju, Corporator, Ward No. 24, said: “We have dug eight borewells in different places of HBR Layout, like Kuppuswamy Layout, Nanjappa Colony, Teachers' Colony (2nd Block), near Chatrapati Hospital, among others, at a total cost of Rs 30 lakh. Very soon, three borewells will be coming up in and around the areas of Hennur also.”
Pradeep, one of residents staying in Teachers Colony, said: “The public is happy with the initiative. Previously, there was a borewell here but it wasn't of any use as it was not sufficient for all of us and wasn't
in good condition. The new borewell was dug up 12 days back with motor and pipe connection. But, then it would be operational after a week and the water seems to be nice. So, on the whole, we are content and eagerly looking forward to use it.”
Sujatha, another resident, who has been staying in HBR Layout for past many years, said: “We used to suffer from water problem a lot as there was uneven and non-uniform supply. Sometimes, the department tankers come but only for some houses they used to provide water which is totally unfair. Hope, the issue will soon be resolved and reduced to some extent.”
Dr. Sitaram Prasad, another resident, said: “There has been an acute water crisis in this ward all through the year and with the new move, if not Cauvery water at least people can use borewell water. It's good that the Corporator is trying to help the common man, but there are a lot of illegal water connections which need to be looked into.”
“Since the water problem affects specially during the scorching summer months like March, April and May, we took the decision of digging borewells that are attached with the motor pump,” added Govindaraju. Talking about his other developmental activities, he said: “Asphalting the main roads and crossroads including lanes in 2nd Block, 3rd Block and 80 ft Rd will begin very soon.”
