As each and everyone around us has welcomed the new year 2012 with great glamour and celebration, city plus checks out on what did the people find as the most significant event of 2011 and why?

I feel Mother Nature's attack on Japan was a significant event in 2011. The devastation caused by the tsunami and earthquake in Japan displayed the magnitude at which Mother Nature can strike back at mankind. It was amazing to see the display of humanity by helping each other and maintaining harmony instead of chaos during the crisis. Perhaps this is a wake-up call to us and other nations to check if they are well-equipped to handle challenges like these.

An initiative by some students of the Indian Institute of Technology, Rajasthan, India, along with a London based company called Datawind to develop an Android based tablet computer, manufactured by an Indian company Quad was for me the most significant event. Officially launched on October 5, 2011, the 7-inch Touch screen tablet features 256 MB RAM, uses an ARM 11 process with the Android 2.2 operating system. Named Akash tablet, it is having amazing sales and hence it feels great to have such wizards amongst us in our country.
